There are two types of online defensive driving courses that are allowed by
Florida's traffic laws and Miami – Dade Court for ticket dismissal, 4-hour Basic Driver Improvement (BDI) or 8 – hour Intermediate Driver Improvement.
- Complete a four-hour Basic Driver Improvement (BDI) course if you haven't taken 4-hour course within the last twelve months or five times within a lifetime.
- If you do not qualify for 4-hour BDI course, the Miami-Dade court may allow you to complete an 8-hour course. The Intermediate Driver Improvement (IDI) course is only allowed by Miami court and is available one time in a lifetime. You do not qualify if you hold a Commercial Drivers License or are attending because of a Red Light Violation by photo camera. Only elect the 8-hour IDI course if you do not qualify for the 4-hour one.
Note: If you elect Miami–Date Court 8-hour course you are required to complete it.
