There are three ways you can check the status of your driver’s license and to see if your license is suspended in CA. No matter which route you take, you will need to know your Driver License number or Identification Card Number and he correct spelling of your last name. 1. Call the DMV You may be put on hold for 15 to 30 minutes, but once you get a DMV operator on the line, they will be able to look up your record pretty quickly and let you know your driving record status. Just be prepared to listen to some sleepy tunes while on hold. 2. Go to your local DMV office in person You will most likely have to wait in line for 30 minutes to an hour before you will have the chance to personally speak to a DMV clerk face to face. However, you will be able to obtain your driving record, ask the attendant why your license has been suspended if it is, and also have any questions you may have about your record answered by a professional DMV worker. 3. Go to the DMV Website If you go this route, you will need to be a Certified User. In other words, you will have to create an account/register for a free online profile with the DMV website. To register, you will need to have/know:

  • b. Your driver’s license or ID number
  • c. Your date of birth
  • d. Last four digits of your SSN
  • e. Your driver’s license or ID number issue date
  • f. Your license plate number
  • g. Your VIN number
  • h. A credit card, debit card, checking account or PayPal account (you will be charged $2.00 for the record)
  • Beware, the document you receive online will NOT be an official document. However, it will still provide information including whether or not your license has been suspended. If you see the letters: SUS, then, yep! Your license was suspended.
